Genencor Named One of America’s Best Places to Work

Palo Alto, California— Oct. 18, 2011 – Genencor was named one of America’s best places to work in 2011, the fifth time receiving the prestigious honor, announced today. Genencor, one of the world’s leading industrial biotechnology companies, and now part of DuPont Industrial Sciences, ranked No. 11 in the 2011 annual survey of “50 Best Small and Medium Workplaces” presented by Great Place to Work®.

“I’ve always believed in two things that make an organization truly successful: people and providing great customer solutions. By attracting, retaining and investing in a talented team, we have set and built upon a foundation to address global challenges and deliver technology and solutions for people and customers around the world,” said Jim Sjoerdsma, head of Genencor Human Resources.

“People are at the center of what makes any new business successful. Empower your team and you will be amazed at the results. It’s the small ways you show appreciation for people that makes the difference and leads to big results.”

Great Place to Work®, a San Francisco-based institute, reviewed the applications from hundreds of companies in the small and medium workplaces category using a model that is recognized as the global standard for assessing great workplaces. The selection process included an employee and management survey and review of physical materials, such as annual reports and employee handbooks. Companies are then ranked based on employee opinion, benefits, compensation, diversity, philanthropy and camaraderie.

Genencor’s vibrant, diverse and entrepreneurial culture is reflected in its corporate culture motto: “Work hard, play hard, change the world.” Based in the heart of Silicon Valley, Genencor has a global workforce of about 1,500 employees and strives to cultivate an environment that fosters and rewards creativity, innovation and scientific discovery.

Genencor earned five awards from Great Place to Work®, including first-place for the “2005 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America.” In Europe, Genencor’s Finland and Netherlands offices also received the award in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The first time Genencor received the honor was in 2004, ranking No. 4 in the small and medium companies category. In addition, Genencor was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times, Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and Deloitte, ranking No. 3 as one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s “50 Best Places to Work” in 2010.
